So much has changed since my last blog post. BUT I feel obligated to let you know where I've been so you might continue to read my sporadic updates that come in the future.<br />
<br />
1. I had another baby. Right, so that explains MOST of my absence from here.<br />
<br />
2. We moved from the East Coast of Canada to the West Coast of Canada when baby was 3 months old. So that explains the rest of where I've been.<br />
<br />
I have been so busy settling, getting my eldest registered and then started in Kindergarten (how did that happen??) and learn our new home, that I have neither played with (or put together) my loom since we arrived. Okay, I'll be frank, I left MY loom in New Brunswick when we moved thinking it was time to leave that piece of me behind as I didn't see a time when I'd be back to weaving. Then after arriving in British Columbia, I was gifted a new to me loom with bench, warping mill, books, yarn, etc. Right, the whole kit and kaboodle! So, my new loom sits in the basement in pieces and my loom in NB sits in storage in my Dad's house until I'm back there one day to do something with it.<br />
<br />
So that's what has been happening around here. I made a whopping 3 owl ornaments this past Christmas and gifted all 3 of them away. <br />
<br />
I have been asked to lead/coordinate a Weaving a Story workshop at my church for Lent. We're going to do branch weaving and tell our life story through yarn. I love it! It takes me right back to the first weaving project I ever did in craft college. So that's something to look forward to that is stringy. <br />
<br />
I leave you with that. And I promise to be back before another 18+ months...really!Sarah McIntyrehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16132966132719342133noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1073749912391872954.post-2778823860897084612012-10-28T11:13:00.000-03:002012-10-28T11:13:03.336-03:00New Stuff :)Well, folks, I've been a busy little weaver and completed some new ornaments. By Monday night, I was gallbladder free. YAHOO!! No more pain. Well, no more gallbladder pain...now it's healing pain.<br />
<br />
SO...while I spend countless hours in bed resting this week, I'm going to work on owls. You'll remember them from previous posts...<a href="http://unbeweaveable.blogspot.ca/2011/12/looming-of-owls.html" target="_blank">found here</a>. By tomorrow, I expect I'll have a dozen or so finished. Photos will come up once they're done and then they'll be for sale in the Etsy shop (<a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/sarahshandwovens" target="_blank">found here</a>).<br />
<br />
Happy healing to me!!Sarah McIntyrehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16132966132719342133noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1073749912391872954.post-9855660529290796762012-08-18T12:20:00.000-03:002012-08-18T12:20:09.214-03:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This morning, the family and I embarked on our first visit of the year (we're lazy on Saturday mornings) to the Fredericton Boyce Farmers Market. Wow! We picked a great morning. No rain, but also no blistering sun. We found chocolate ice cream (and Connor loved eating it at 10:30 am), chicken souvlaki pitas (yummy McYummy), and a clown to make a monkey balloon. Overall a great trip. We came home with locally grown peaches and cream corn for supper and baby carrots fresh from the ground. It will be a good eatin' day. Not bad for the first day of vacay.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As for the weaving world...have you been to the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/sarahshandwovens" target="_blank">Etsy Shop</a> yet? If not, check it out. Make it a favorite of yours so you can find out when new items are added. And thanks, as always, for stopping by.</div>

You can access the page <a href="http://www.facebook.com/unbeweaveablebysarahmcintyre" target="_blank">here </a>and like it. Then you will be kept up to date on new products (yes, I update Facebook faster than the blog), sales, promotions and other stuff I feel like sharing on a more frequent basis.<br />
<br />
For those who are new to this blog, I'm now selling my work on Etsy and you can visit my shop by clicking <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/sarahshandwovens?ref=search_shop_redirect" target="_blank">here</a>. I'm working away at more new products to add. Keep checking back.<br />
<br />
It's a beautiful day in my neighbourhood. My family and I are getting ready to head out on a camping trip for a few days - I love organized procrastination from studio time. I'm sure I'll see many treasures along the way that inspire more work. Much like these Mermaid's Tail scarves were inspired by our trip to the Fundy Bay last summer (and currently available for sale in my <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/sarahshandwovens?ref=search_shop_redirect" target="_blank">Etsy shop</a>). Enjoy!<br />

<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<img height="77" id="il_fi" src="https://evbdn.eventbrite.com/s3-s3/eventlogos/897410/grand2520opening25201.jpg" style="padding-bottom: 8px; padding-right: 8px; padding-top: 8px;" width="400" /> </div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I have jumped, both feet, into the world of Etsy. I've looked and enjoyed the site for a long time. Many friends have asked, "Are you on Etsy?". Well, now I am. The shop is called sarahshandwovens or *unbeweaveable by Sarah McIntyre. Either should get you there...and so will this link: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/sarahshandwovens" target="_blank">Sarahshandwovens</a>.<br />
<br />
I invite to you visit, look around and shop away. I'll be adding new inventory as it comes off the loom and is finished. You'll find scarves, table runners, owls (large and small) and bath accessories.<br />
<br />
This is an adventure. I'm 10 years in and I wonder what I'll be doing differently?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The rainbow warp has been woven, sewn, fringed and washed. It is now many different items. All different from what I had thought they would be originally - I love being surprised by fabric off the loom! <br />
<br />
So without further ado...<br />
<br />

This feels like it's the beginning of something great. A bit like Christmas! There is a small piece of the cotton and wool fabric that was too long for a bag, so I'm thinking it will become two large pillows. It's lovely too. After a wash and dry in the machines (thank god for them) the fabric is very soft and cushy. Perfect for pillows!!</div>

The next warp going on is the <a href="http://unbeweaveable.blogspot.ca/2012_01_01_archive.html" target="_blank">Zebra Wood warp</a>. Click for a reminder ;) It's all gorgeous too! </div>

An overdue book that is also a good read is worth the $1 or so in fines.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGm7NWhSRaMnPtS9fobP1KqE6BaA8M4dLnpxTkcTSNbrC9uXKDH0sFxUFPfqHjMd6mjhjRc8FZgKF0yI9-mFI-q95sDpJPBy91-uHX6tcMsZlH5fstkNNDoRoZ5jgsW85ZCr7xV8Oce3Q/s1600/half+blood+blues.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGm7NWhSRaMnPtS9fobP1KqE6BaA8M4dLnpxTkcTSNbrC9uXKDH0sFxUFPfqHjMd6mjhjRc8FZgKF0yI9-mFI-q95sDpJPBy91-uHX6tcMsZlH5fstkNNDoRoZ5jgsW85ZCr7xV8Oce3Q/s1600/half+blood+blues.jpg" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
2. A day spent at home with my wee sidekick means that I can clean the cupboards, rearrange cookbooks, clear off the counter tops and the dinning room buffet - all while enjoying his company and playing stickers.<br />
<br />
3. There is balance in not finding a day of work (the double edged joy of being a supply teacher).<br />
<br />
4. I really love my babysitter (and also that I love that my wee sidekick also loves her)!<br />
<br />
5. Sometimes, frozen pizza IS the answer to "What's for dinner?"<br />
<br />
6. I enjoy working half-days because I pay for a full day sitter and that means MommyTime (aka studio time).<br />
<br />
7. The best part about a YMCA membership is having access to a heated pool.<br />
<br />
8. Dollarstore chocolate imported from Turkey is JUST AS GOOD as the American made stuff.<br />
<br />
9. All purpose flour is not created equal. Although the label says "All Purpose Whole Wheat Flour" it does not make cookies taste the same. They are heavier. So much for trying to be healthier....Bring on the white stuff.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
10. There's nothing like a 6:00 AM dance party to the Indigo Girls on a Monday morning! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And now I can share too! Thanks, Kali :)<br /><br />It was a super fun afternoon and these baskets were a real treat to share with others. The possibilities are endless as far as materials go. If you want to make one, let me know and I can send you the info.<br />

I feel blessed (and exhausted, really) to have the chance to share my knowledge with others.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAHIE8CdAPwKpkcQ8hV314oOW10L4XCbqHHV1PMScbzuckPmkFrX_jdwGWavv_rjS0NckJjbYlc_achwGYglP9lenlJ9BAdSgBFYl0M8X22PwRNzWmlXSa0vuMgDt2FS86q4JKrTvLS5o/s1600/dramafest.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="113" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAHIE8CdAPwKpkcQ8hV314oOW10L4XCbqHHV1PMScbzuckPmkFrX_jdwGWavv_rjS0NckJjbYlc_achwGYglP9lenlJ9BAdSgBFYl0M8X22PwRNzWmlXSa0vuMgDt2FS86q4JKrTvLS5o/s320/dramafest.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
First I did a stint as NB Drama Fest for High School and Middle School students and teachers. I got to share singing techniques and tips as well as creative story time theatre ideas. Watching students try new things is one of the reasons I teach. What a treat to do it at Drama Fest (the largest drama festival in Canada, just so you know).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUBpxAxQgCDKLhtjjxgVCuvDliilKBz3L0bB53odeWMBbLec1xvjux4iq7_l3PjvYfpvBLWNb9wjPy2IKDRm1bhkhJgX8B5rp0VIMm3JcaBQOm6MA6q7neZjDrk54sOcukDzPhgQ1pc6M/s1600/piano-music-notes-6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="205" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUBpxAxQgCDKLhtjjxgVCuvDliilKBz3L0bB53odeWMBbLec1xvjux4iq7_l3PjvYfpvBLWNb9wjPy2IKDRm1bhkhJgX8B5rp0VIMm3JcaBQOm6MA6q7neZjDrk54sOcukDzPhgQ1pc6M/s320/piano-music-notes-6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I capped off the two weeks spending a day with NB Teachers at their provincial PD day. We did art and it was awesome. I taught basic basket weaving skills. It was new to everyone who attended and we had a such a great time turning newspapers and packaging boxes in to lovely baskets. Again, a real treat to share my skills with others.<br />
<br />

<br />
The plus side to all of this? I'm now super inspired to get back at the loom which is currently still has the rainbow project warp on it. I know, I know. It's been ages since I put it on. But I took advantage of every teachable day I could get. I'm a supply teacher, and I need them all! However, summer is just around the corner. I have Nana and Grammie coming closer for the summer and have also found a lovely teen who loves to babysit. I will weave, my friends and get my many warps on and off the loom and photographed to share with you all.Sarah McIntyrehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16132966132719342133noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1073749912391872954.post-40939004195627179792012-01-31T14:47:00.002-04:002012-01-31T14:47:53.430-04:00How do you keep a weaver busy?How do you keep a weaver busy?? Today I measured off four (4) warps - future projects, if you will. Each one is destined to be table runners. Or at least that is the plan. They are colorful, cotton and ready to go on the loom. Now, which one will I choose to go on first??<br />

I had some remnants of handmade wool fabric laying about, so I jumped on the band wagon and started making felted wool owls. The fabric is felted in the washer and dryer, then cut into the shapes of owl heads. I needle felt the eyes on and put on the finishing touches of creative faces. They are super fun to make and I've used up all my remnants. Not too shabby. Limited edition 2011 owls - a looming of them, no less.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizwpd7pFBLWdTEjCGj7ZKrDiLycCo3OwYKPXRV9GczsWi0wKt_vvtuUY-q4ur9HPK41lQ4W-LM5dWWRbp3r5SxswoYwtM_hW6yUtjoQik0bJ6KRbOX-Lldwat2gzErmpcDwV7VBbvVH4k/s1600/owls+black+and+red+owls+1.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizwpd7pFBLWdTEjCGj7ZKrDiLycCo3OwYKPXRV9GczsWi0wKt_vvtuUY-q4ur9HPK41lQ4W-LM5dWWRbp3r5SxswoYwtM_hW6yUtjoQik0bJ6KRbOX-Lldwat2gzErmpcDwV7VBbvVH4k/s320/owls+black+and+red+owls+1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5681231277766865810" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN5MxYDmW8xVHXsLLDFZeTRb_tnOPP0N3g4de-Egb90Lf_613eA5PXO43OwPAn4aeWVe2yoWVOwcvvl-4KT-FkBSekSXb8qcXz4zyuXc-MSlU_KW1_msWe3KN1NnnbMo1E7Mv1ltBeg6k/s1600/blue+green+grey+owls+1.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN5MxYDmW8xVHXsLLDFZeTRb_tnOPP0N3g4de-Egb90Lf_613eA5PXO43OwPAn4aeWVe2yoWVOwcvvl-4KT-FkBSekSXb8qcXz4zyuXc-MSlU_KW1_msWe3KN1NnnbMo1E7Mv1ltBeg6k/s320/blue+green+grey+owls+1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5681148987731325906" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMx_KOUul3MOkMavBFYxmbJgFTqg3sgcMtCY3jRYjDW5pOqKc3hD-7xv35PyMzp7dXEvwT0lbmsQm_hZsFNpf1BFzYUGKGdgA1CnCE4JBeeDy01su4SGhj9N0DO30WEH4e-HXTBYAenf4/s1600/blac+and+charcoal+owls+1.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMx_KOUul3MOkMavBFYxmbJgFTqg3sgcMtCY3jRYjDW5pOqKc3hD-7xv35PyMzp7dXEvwT0lbmsQm_hZsFNpf1BFzYUGKGdgA1CnCE4JBeeDy01su4SGhj9N0DO30WEH4e-HXTBYAenf4/s320/blac+and+charcoal+owls+1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5681148983602038338" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5KCPbLOtE6JC5dBC-u8hkyi3EFGvxVVIRq1P6LVcISZNjw2FK6bqjJZH_JxkEgrR3lx2i_PHukQ5EhK_1bhfhxIY843EDiXPh61xJZhdz2wBH_r9c-AioFJbUsTc8x4bIPz5vBHonUmQ/s1600/cream+and+blue+mix+owls+1.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5KCPbLOtE6JC5dBC-u8hkyi3EFGvxVVIRq1P6LVcISZNjw2FK6bqjJZH_JxkEgrR3lx2i_PHukQ5EhK_1bhfhxIY843EDiXPh61xJZhdz2wBH_r9c-AioFJbUsTc8x4bIPz5vBHonUmQ/s320/cream+and+blue+mix+owls+1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5681149005335878594" border="0" /></a>Sarah McIntyrehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16132966132719342133noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1073749912391872954.post-15339831891682063932011-12-01T08:56:00.006-04:002011-12-01T14:29:12.214-04:00Oh the scarves!<div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-bwiq3-Egs5aXteoDhxAbcrsC13zojkGPP1FTcCFH_qZxj_MkDrLn-3tmoDksa6hJ0T8GVtSoXPYuNckJVOeGez_vk5cWFMdHHZhocJQMzNRbvy4Fb_jIH0-uIrazLe1rVXSbbpWe2Sk/s1600/silver+wool+black+cotton+weft.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-bwiq3-Egs5aXteoDhxAbcrsC13zojkGPP1FTcCFH_qZxj_MkDrLn-3tmoDksa6hJ0T8GVtSoXPYuNckJVOeGez_vk5cWFMdHHZhocJQMzNRbvy4Fb_jIH0-uIrazLe1rVXSbbpWe2Sk/s320/silver+wool+black+cotton+weft.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5681146894033679266" border="0" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">silver fine wool warp with black cotton weft<br /><br /><br /></div>I'm really here. I bought the warp yarn when we were in<br />China (2003-04) and it has stayed in my cupboard all that time waiting for the right project. The time finally came this fall. I warped the variegated wool (very fine) and used my stash of cotton chenille as the weft. The result? A velvet touch. Lovely drape. Light weight scarf. If only I had more of the China yarn, I'd make these again and again. Now I'm on the hunt for a similar quality wool to do this with in the future...the search continues.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYUQijPmqPeenfEksMx7gIaByeF0JRjXP2bEC0Bb5QFolQ4ILOuT2kVjlZB_oilOmbFRs5rriUokTqgOujoYzHr49pA9rlQsucy6Sz-Br2Fu9PdDVYvYv0WiVxr3nThShYpf5kzg7k6Lc/s1600/pink+chenille.JPG"><img style="display:block; Darling son is now old enough to come in with me and keep busy playing in the all the yarn - and in the loom.<br /><br />Christmas sales are fast approaching. It's the last week of September and the first sale is November 5. This year I'm trying something new...scarves. I've made them before, so they're not new, new. But I've never focused so much time and energy into making them for a sales. My second decision was to limit myself to my yarn stash. So far so good. I'm on warp #4 and have one more ready to go after this one. Then I'll make some more warps and get working again.<br /><br />I'm hoping to take photos later - it's a beautiful sunny September day. <br /><br />Keep posted for those updates...in the very, very near future!!Sarah McIntyrehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16132966132719342133noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1073749912391872954.post-15937915051572347982011-09-14T19:53:00.004-03:002011-12-01T14:28:55.726-04:00Well, hello there!<div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpL2mF33vdeJ47ze12-g8YBKsv4g12lGRMXxHJrAkMLH5JdaOriSdCTZfq73rnCEcbXLHutSjEtHkGMFKWIUjzajl8doMuGUx5Kudt-7fXJMuiSCaJMh34eYo3XcpFXMBHiZkjMX3ZAio/s1600/100_1838.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpL2mF33vdeJ47ze12-g8YBKsv4g12lGRMXxHJrAkMLH5JdaOriSdCTZfq73rnCEcbXLHutSjEtHkGMFKWIUjzajl8doMuGUx5Kudt-7fXJMuiSCaJMh34eYo3XcpFXMBHiZkjMX3ZAio/s320/100_1838.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5681228449642168994" border="0" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">my little helper<br /></div><br /><br />I have been away from this blog for far too long. It all comes down to not being in the studio. But now I'm back in. I finished my teaching degree this year and am now a supply teacher. To fill my time between supply calls, I'm weaving. The best part? My little guy likes to come in the studio with me to play at the "woom" (aka loom). He's a great helper.<br /><br />September featured a piece of mine in an alumnae show at UNB, ars de centum.<br /><br />So, I'm making scarves. Oodles and oodles of velvety scarves. I'm not usually a scarf weaver, but I am prepping for Christmas sales, and they are a good item to have on my table. They make a great, practical, fashionable gift.<br /><br />Stay tuned to see what's new!Sarah McIntyrehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16132966132719342133noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1073749912391872954.post-70972369643956980952010-08-20T14:33:00.003-03:002010-08-20T14:39:16.978-03:00vacation = procrastinationWe've been on vacation for two weeks. Family time came first. But we're back and it's time to get down to work. There is a runner on the loom now, the Olive/White one to match the one I took off as a wedding gift commission last month. When that comes off, there is a rug to put on.<br /><br />The rug is a commission for a sweet little girls room. It will be fun to do. The yarn is ordered, and I anxiously await it's arrival at the post office. But not to anxiously, of course. I have to get the runner off first. I wasn't able to get a photo before of the fringed runner, mostly due to lack of time. But I did get a detail shot. It was lovely. Subtle. Elegant. One-of-a-kind.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZDLyKLdTGT8FSDZCHZRBp6I7dCH8sJDu9g8vYs68EH4bXhOSOK0YqL_uQ5dc2-QdVkR0gLWcDGs2EyQK_wN_DLs_wcui4MnszttMayJN7jjjfmbwobEDdGGVD852A_w-hKVcJn1YuM-Y/s1600/100_0536%5B1%5D"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZDLyKLdTGT8FSDZCHZRBp6I7dCH8sJDu9g8vYs68EH4bXhOSOK0YqL_uQ5dc2-QdVkR0gLWcDGs2EyQK_wN_DLs_wcui4MnszttMayJN7jjjfmbwobEDdGGVD852A_w-hKVcJn1YuM-Y/s320/100_0536%5B1%5D" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5497458401996122274" border="0" /></a>photo taken before washing. detail shot.<br /><br /></div>Now I have the white/olive one to finish. I started it and it's completely different! I love that my choice of weft (yarn that weaves into the loom) can have such dramatic outcomes, even when the pattern is the exact same.<br /><br />Next project ready for the loom is a blanket. And not for anyone in particular. Just to add to inventory. That will be nice.Sarah McIntyrehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16132966132719342133noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1073749912391872954.post-78099112206077170262010-07-16T09:17:00.004-03:002010-07-16T09:29:30.785-03:00the rag rug<div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwUNnRNJUFquXT_IxlkdoDlSrSUdahws4265O9to8q0gbAmW-g-GrKA_ZvZ1KFMoGS0-SB5plyp0M9tBlM2IAooZzHaBdhd_e6fNREQrBW_Iq47uqw338zVc6zzK9ynzdkD7oUq6b5D0o/s1600/Me+in+my+booth+at+a+craft+sale.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwUNnRNJUFquXT_IxlkdoDlSrSUdahws4265O9to8q0gbAmW-g-GrKA_ZvZ1KFMoGS0-SB5plyp0M9tBlM2IAooZzHaBdhd_e6fNREQrBW_Iq47uqw338zVc6zzK9ynzdkD7oUq6b5D0o/s320/Me+in+my+booth+at+a+craft+sale.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494478745602449970" border="0" /></a>me with some of my rugs<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">left to right: blue with blue threads (2x4), burgundy with stripe (runner) ,<br />checker board (4x6), burgundy with stripe (runner)<br /></div><br />When I was a student learning weaving, I was mesmerized by rugs. Of course, the easiest ones for me to work on were rag rugs. So, away I went. Designing and playing within the boundaries of rag rug territory. I loved it.<br /><br />Now, I don't get to make them as often as I used to. They are a lot of work, but well worth it. Here are a few of my favorites from over the years.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjODEBfsEfNvue_AnKWF8fjyRo_xnvKUmVtxyJWZgJ4_r0cJ3j9_qF-5bOulesM5YHdVDU9bXeMVdXhHcQc9zGCpHo3gRom17mDAEuymfta7guP_XHC1cx2ypTFNGZ-s3VBRJPe4dBGI2U/s1600/Officers+Square+07b.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 229px; height: 307px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjODEBfsEfNvue_AnKWF8fjyRo_xnvKUmVtxyJWZgJ4_r0cJ3j9_qF-5bOulesM5YHdVDU9bXeMVdXhHcQc9zGCpHo3gRom17mDAEuymfta7guP_XHC1cx2ypTFNGZ-s3VBRJPe4dBGI2U/s320/Officers+Square+07b.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494480035165548690" border="0" /></a>the one that started it all<br />Rainbow Rug (3x5)<br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0qJUnc2hdFe0qz0KBQMwkx47moDmy11ma6-5k-HW5FHbBkcjcT-Stzx2BKU6NDKUYtkem-I14jnYU0DPsj2mJzo-an4RsJtz1Mz7gMPCeqWJ3yJOVTbKCvEVlqfCiyz4DQgJKLffdaps/s1600/Officers+Square+04b.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 172px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0qJUnc2hdFe0qz0KBQMwkx47moDmy11ma6-5k-HW5FHbBkcjcT-Stzx2BKU6NDKUYtkem-I14jnYU0DPsj2mJzo-an4RsJtz1Mz7gMPCeqWJ3yJOVTbKCvEVlqfCiyz4DQgJKLffdaps/s320/Officers+Square+04b.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494479657911677458" border="0" /></a>blue rug with mauve dyed threads (2x4)<br /></div><br />The rugs I made were cotton warps, some dyed cotton threads and broadcloth rags. Now, technically, that would be strip weaving...since the cloth is bought new and cut to use. But the technique comes from rag rug weaving..so I stick with the name rag rugs.<br /><br />These days, when I make one, they are cotton threads in solid colors (stripes usually) and then broadcloth strips...sometimes even flannel, which makes for a really SOFT rug on the floor. They are always machine washer & dryer safe. Very easy to live with and seem to live forever...or at least the ones in my house don't seem to show wear. They just get softer and softer with time.<br /><br />So, how much would one cost?? Good question. I charge $25 per square foot. The sizes I usually make are 2x4, 3x5 and 4x6. I've made hall runners too that were 2x8. Width is my limitation on the loom...so 4 ft is as wide as I can go.<br /><br />I don't keep rag rugs in stock. Too much money tied up in inventory that might not suit a persons house. Instead, I make them special order to fit a specific room. Interested? Threading the loom. But it's worth the extra time to make sure I don't make any mistakes in the pattern. Even when I'm doing a simple 1-2-3-4 threading, mistakes can occur if I go too quickly.<br /><br />I thread the loom from front to back. Most weavers do it the other way round. But I was taught front to back and that's how I roll with it. In fact, I often do my color designing "in the reed" (the comb part) as I thread. I always have the colors picked out and counted out ready to go, but sometimes as the last minute, change my mind on how they should be arranged in the reed. It's fun!<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim2eMTUzYgx1lKCUyRNAg3JrhiPWmCzs0TzD-B7YMJy3y2VOepZQ0IarD___mSVeDKnde5CtRdZ1ghJVUWFLMNiE6ay5cpCTG_Qt-cEj81QnuCTNbIY614RLZb_a31945cvRCDWaX2FjQ/s1600/100_0053.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim2eMTUzYgx1lKCUyRNAg3JrhiPWmCzs0TzD-B7YMJy3y2VOepZQ0IarD___mSVeDKnde5CtRdZ1ghJVUWFLMNiE6ay5cpCTG_Qt-cEj81QnuCTNbIY614RLZb_a31945cvRCDWaX2FjQ/s320/100_0053.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5493006195826192050" border="0" /></a>through the reed<br /></div><br />Today I'm threading a cotton warp (the threads that go through the loom) that will be a table runner. It's a commissioned wedding gift. So I need it done this week. The pattern is a broken twill that will make lovely diamond "W" shapes. I'm making two: one white/white and one white/olive. We'll see which one is best when they're both fringed, washed and ironed. My gut says white/white. But who knows?<br /><br />Photos to come of finished project.Sarah McIntyrehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16132966132719342133noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1073749912391872954.post-90722234790971772742010-06-20T10:35:00.006-03:002010-06-20T10:48:27.877-03:00wedding season is upon us....<div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwfrpXTlova3u79NzetTFksxeiEswQpBRlccB3THBafKyoGABIGVdJL_XrmGJEtdyYzV0iOGxO44CdruBbIhnXOsF959duvkb6qqRApuZPvG7UFwT4lNrrehLHr_Cmfyhy6xztfqHFqgY/s1600/IMG_3930.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwfrpXTlova3u79NzetTFksxeiEswQpBRlccB3THBafKyoGABIGVdJL_XrmGJEtdyYzV0iOGxO44CdruBbIhnXOsF959duvkb6qqRApuZPvG7UFwT4lNrrehLHr_Cmfyhy6xztfqHFqgY/s320/IMG_3930.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5484850644354109954" border="0" /></a>my wedding day June 7, 2008<br /></div><br />It's funny, but every spring, usually starting in May, I start to get requests for wedding gifts.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center; font-style: italic;">"Do you have any table runners?"<br /><br />"What about at throw?"<br /><br />"Can you suggest something you have in stock that would be a good wedding gift?"<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfbxwB3esPWCXDbMitOurfqMPTe23Q4psdfHxd56xmmbHl18UR5a4yoO5ZHLJ1-XSywK4wzLYPuNr2ubUVSqvPLv7H2GrWGMuEiWIWds211uwX0pJQEw62nChEwDAnO-t291ZndQQNZLg/s1600/sarah+14.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 315px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfbxwB3esPWCXDbMitOurfqMPTe23Q4psdfHxd56xmmbHl18UR5a4yoO5ZHLJ1-XSywK4wzLYPuNr2ubUVSqvPLv7H2GrWGMuEiWIWds211uwX0pJQEw62nChEwDAnO-t291ZndQQNZLg/s320/sarah+14.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5484851593369113586" border="0" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">hand woven guest towels<br /></div><br />Ultimately, the wedding is usually sooner rather than later which can make selections harder.
